The Irish Society of Homeopaths is the only recognised registering body for homeopathy in Ireland. The Society both set and maintain the standards for homeopathy in Ireland. Registerd members are bound by the Code of Ethics and Practice of the Society and participate in the Continuing Professional Development programme ot the Society. This ensures that professional homeopaths practice in an environment which is recognised and which provides the highest quality healthcare for patients.

The Society has an accreditation procedure for course providers. The accreditation process defines, maintains and develops uniformly high standards of professional education in homeopathy. The Irish School of Homoeopathy is the first school in the country to successfully meet these criteria and have its course accredited. This means that professional competence of graduates of the School is accepted. Graduates are then automatically entitled to go forward for registration and participate in the Society's CPD (Continual Professional Development) programme.

As an accredited provider of the Society our professional course meets the very highest standards in education and training in Ireland. There is major emphasis on both quality, feedback and best practice and the standard of our course is monitored both internallly and externally to ensure the highest standards are maintained for our students. The professional practice of Homeopathy, in line with the recommendation by the Minister for Health and Children, is one of voluntary self-regulation. You may read the report here at the Department's website www.doh.ie The regulating body of professional Homeopaths in Ireland is The Irish Society of Homeopaths.

The Society therefore recognises the qualification of the Irish School of Homeopathy and successful graduates may apply to join the Society's professional register with all of the attendant benefits of registered membership. Many of the health insurance companies will reimburse their members if they visit a registered homeopath and subscribe to the relevant medical insurance plan.

The Irish Society of Homeopaths is a member of the E.C.C.H. (European Council for Classical Homeopathy) which is the regulating body for homeopathy in Europe. Our syllabus is based closely on the European guidelines and there is particular emphasis on clinical training and supervision. More information on the work of the E.C.C.H. can be found at

Regulation

The Minister for Health and Children has published a report on the regulation of complementary medicine in Ireland. The report recommends a system of voluntary self-regulation in line with practice in other European countries. Homoeopathy regulated by the Irish Society of Homeopaths is one of the few professions that meet all of the recommended requirements. Having properly trained professionals who have graduated from an accredited course and who are then insured and registered will ensure the highest standards of treatment for patients.

Accreditation and degree status

The Irish School of Homoeopathy is the first school in Ireland to have successfully completed the rigorous accreditation process of the Irish Society of Homeopaths . When you join our School you can be sure that you are working toward a fully recognised professional qualification. You will then become a fully registered member of this truly rewarding and dynamic profession. In the future you will be part of a truly integrated healthcare system which will see both conventional and complimentary medicine work hand in hand for the benefit of the patient.

An exciting new development is that the School is actively working toward offering a route to a Master's degree programme in Homeopathy. Based on learning outcomes our professional training course is already taught at degree level and successful graduates who wish to gain a MSc in addition to their professional qualification may embark on this programme. It is research based and validated by the University of Central Lancashire. You will find more information on their website.http://www.uclan.ac.uk

Homeopathy is a comprehensive system of medicine in its own right. It offers a complete philosophical foundation and also defined methodologies for the treatment of all illness. This obviously demands intensive practical and clinical training under professional supervision. It is for this reason and in accordance with European guidelines that all recognised training courses are four years long.

European Network of Homeopathic Educators

The work of the E.C.C.H. has recently been enhanced with the setting up of the E.N.H.E. This separates the roles of the professional bodies from that of the educators. The School has two representatives with the newly established network and this body will now be the guiding force for setting and maintaining standards for homeopathic education. The E.N.H.E. will work on such areas as curriculum development, teacher training, C.P.D. (continual professional development), research, joint recognition of qualifications etc. It is another exciting stage in the further growth and maturity of the homeopathic profession.
