The Students

The professional course was designed primarily with mature students in mind, both men and women, who come from all walks of life and have varying backgrounds. Many of our students work fulltime in the home or in the workplace and find the structure of the course fits in with their life style. They are strongly committed to the study of homeopathy and are highly motivated. All our students are mature students.

The course is designed for those people who wish to become professional Homeopaths. Selection for the course is dependant on a written application and an informal interview. We would also like applicants to have completed an introductory workshop. The workshops introduce potential students to the School and give them an idea of what the weekend seminars will be like. They also provide a comprehensive introduction to the philosophies and methodologies of homeopathy as well as a practical introduction to the use of homeopathy in acute situations.

Our entry requirements are that students should have successfully completed the Leaving Certificate examination or equivalent. Mature students without these qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply and will be considered on their work and life experience. The commitment required for attendance, participation, assessments and study is considerable. The recommended study time required is at least 15 hours per week. This time comprises reading, case studies, written assignments and note taking. Students are also expected to attend weekly regional study groups and also monthly tutorials with a homeopathic mentor.

Students who embark on our professional training course of homeopathic studies will find that it is not just a professional course leading to a caring career but it is also a process which will change you deeply as you become a homeopathic practitioner. You will find this process both very rewarding and also challenging. You will be faced with many new ideas and concepts along the way. You will be inspired and hopefully find a sense of fufillment which is not possible in many other areas of life. You will also meet new like-minded friends and future colleagues during this 4 year programme.

The following quotes are all from students and graduates of our School:

R. Malone B.A. H.Dip Ed, Lic.ISH - Graduate
"I used to think that I chose Homeopathy but I now know that it chose me. I had long ago begun my search for something deeper in life. I was feeling 'stuck' in my chosen profession and wanted to find something which allowed a greater expression of my true self. I attended a weekend workshop and had one of those rare intuitive moments in life when the brain finally realises what the soul had always known. That was it! I was found! I began the four-year training course that year and entered into what I can honestly say was the BEST four years of my life to date. I had two beautiful children during the course - one in first year and one in fourth year - and the fantastic thing about it was that my babies were accepted as part of the class (during the early breast feeding stage)! I now practice from home and have the freedom to be there for my family and yet enjoy a fulfilling career. I also teach homeopathy which is a dream come true for me. I am combining my two greatest loves - teaching and homeopathy. My journey has only just begun but what excitement and joy it has already brought into my life!"

Marie McQuail Moran R.G.N, R.M, R.O.N., Lic. ISH - Graduate
"Nursing is my chosen profession and I decided to study homeopathy several years ago as I was frustrated with many of its limitations. Since becoming a practitioner of homeopathy, I am not only fulfilling my desire to be in a health related career but to be able to give people the time and attention that is required in order to treat the whole person. The homeopathic consultation can last over an hour and besides giving therapeutic information the patient also has time to be listened to, which is also quite healing in itself. I now combine my family life, 3 young children, with part-time nursing and a growing homeopathic practice. I find I am also getting much more out of my nursing now. Studying homeopathy was the best thing ever, for me, and my enthusiasm for the discipline is unrelenting. I found the professional course very enlightening and very practical. I am currently enrolled in the postgraduate programme at Milltown, which I find very rewarding and supportive."

Clare Donnelly - Reflexologist, Homemaker and Student
"I have been using homeopathy regularly for the past 10 years for myself and family, attending our local Homeopath in Donegal, who has been in effect our G.P. Choosing homeopathy as a career for me is a natural development from being on the receiving end for so long and because I have found it to be the most thorough non-invasive and effective form of medicine. I am enjoying the course immensely and it is great to get a break from family commitments now and again. The monthly tutorials with my mentor are essential to me, and it is here that I have been able to see some of the theory I have learned demonstrated in practical terms. I also find that the structure of the course is well thought out for mature students giving me time to study and complete homework and projects in between the monthly lectures."

Bernie Smyth Lic.ISH, I.S.Hom - Graduate
"I qualified from the Irish School of Homeopathy some years ago; I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the course; it was fascinating, inspirational and at times, challenging. The lecturers were extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic and I received great encouragement from the study group tutors and from the School itself. I now have a very busy practice and look forward to other students graduating, to help keep up with the ever-increasing demand for homeopathic practitioners! I also lecture at the School and work closely with students as mentor and study group tutor. I envisage homeopathy as the medicine of the future and would love to impart to people how powerful and potent a medicine it is."

Roger Lee (A.C.M.A.) - Accountant and Student
"I first came to homeopathy because I knew from personal experience that the process worked. Since I came to study at professional level at the Irish School of Homeopathy, a whole new way of looking at health has opened up to me. I find the lecturers are both innovative and highly informative and also entertaining. I feel this is a profession in its development phase. There is endless scope for students to be part of and influence this profession and its future development - and I intend to be one of them."

Mairéad Kennedy - Computer Programmer and current Student
"I felt attracted to its holistic nature, working with the body rather than against it. I am seeking to change my career to something which is more in line with my value system and beliefs in life; and more than anything else I want to help people. I feel a move to homeopathy would work well as I would be able to combine my scientific mind with strong interpersonal skills. I felt the study of homeopathy would be a challenging area and give me an opportunity for constant learning and personal growth and I am not disappointed after my first 2 years of study. I look forward to the next stage of study in 3rd Year when I can put into practise what I have learned academically when I start the practical module, including taking real cases, during clinical training within the school."

Sheelagh O'Brien - Reflexologist, Aromatherapist and Student
"As a child who was practically reared on anti-biotics I always felt there was something vital missing and when I was in my 30's I attended a Homeopath who cured my life-long sore throat. As a holistic therapist, I feel the need to expand my skills, and prepare for the future knowing I cannot physically massage for the remainder of my working life, but wish to continue working with my clients on another level. Homeopathy has worked exceptionally well for me and I look forward to being able to extend the whole experience to my clients. I am enjoying the experience of college life and I particularly enjoy the variety of lecturers, who are themselves Homeopathic Practitioners, and thus give dynamic information from their daily practice of homeopathy."
